While living in the city centre, I do love to get out and enjoy the country side. Together with my sister, a friend and her little son, I visited De Buytenhof again for a lovely afternoon filled with good food, picking apples and watching the animals.
Picking apples @ De Buytenhof
I am a big lover of fresh food and even more so when I know where it is coming from. Earlier this year you could find me very frequent at De Buytenhof, harvesting their delicious strawberries (more here). Now at the beginning of autumn it is time to pick the apples. Together with some cute baskets we picked up in front of the shop, we went off to the apple orchard.
There is a very big difference between these fresh apples and the ones I normally buy in the supermarket. These apples are extremely fresh, juicy and tasty.
Food and tea @ De Buytenhof
After picking our apples and some shopping in the cute store, we sat down in the “Theeschenkerij De Smaak van Buyten” for lunch. We ordered pear and goatcheese toasties, tea and cakes. It all tasted delicious. This is a great place to go to with kids, they can play outside while you can relax you can relax while drinking your latte.
Exploring the gardens filled with food, is both relaxing and a great way for kids to learn were their food comes from.
You can find De Buytenhof @ Rhoon a village very close to Rotterdam. Please check their website for information about the picking seasons and opening hours.
